Madoka Kaname, the viewpoint and title character, is a gentle and friendly 14-year old girl. Living an ordinary life, Madoka has a loving family and is surrounded by good friends. One day she has a dream of a mysterious girl fighting an ominous creature. The next day, Homura Akemi, the girl from her dream, comes to her class as a transfer student.
Madoka first appears to a naive, gentle girl from a kind family. Though sometimes shy, she makes friends without much difficulty and treats others gently and with respect.
She has low self-confidence, and she believes she does not have much to offer the world unless she is helping people, which makes becoming a magical girl appealing to her. She has been known to become flustered easily, and in certain circumstances, she can be easily manipulated by others playing on her insecurity and desire to help. As a magical girl, she is more obviously confident in herself than before her wish.
She calls most girls she knows by their given name with the suffix "-chan" or "-san" at the end, and boys by their family name with the suffix "-kun", showing that she is closer to the girls than boys.

"Kaname-san!" Mami called, running towards her with one hand up and waving and the other clutching the strap of her bag, keeping it from falling off her shoulder. "Please wait up!" She slowed down upon reaching her friend, pausing to catch her breath. She'd been worried about catching up with her in the rush of students leaving school. "I was wondering, would you be able to stay at my apartment tonight? I'm planning on a witch hunt, there are signs of one nearby... And of course, I'll be making dinner, if that's any extra incentive~!"

Madoka turned around and brightly grinned as she saw the blonde haired friend of hers. "Mami-san! Of course! I can easily ask my parent's, I'm sure they will be okay with it!" She grins happily.
"Wonderful! And do you like lemon? I learned to make these lovely little lemon cookies yesterday and I was considering making them for dessert." She hummed cheerfully. It just made her so happy to have friends around. It was such a positive change in her life.

Cue the internal screaming. The troll began to slightly bounce up and down , looking down at the child covered in pink and white. " You're sso adorabubble !! " She exclaims, smooshing her cheeks together, her face blushing a dark blue color. " Oh man aw man , I'm sscared that If I touch you you'll break- " She chuckles, lips curving into a big smile.

The gentle faced female turned towards the interesting-looking..female? She widened her eyes and twirled her left pigtail around her pointer finger, softly blushing. "I..think that's a compliment! Thank you." She gave a gentle smile, her voice dainty like silk. She folded her hands together near her waist area. "But I won't break." She joked.
